Clinker

The original clinker from the Niederlausitz are solid and perforated clinker with an individual surface texture, a varied play of colours and a fresh look. Nowadays, the charm of a house is the prerequisite of modern living. The outstanding technical attributes of our clinker are another reason for choosing our clinker from the Niederlausitz. Because of the mix of raw materials (clay and sand) they are heavy, dense, rigid and they sound bright if you strike them. Thus, the name “clinker” comes from the dutch verb “klinken” (to sound). Our clinker are produced with the so called extrusion method. The domestic clay mass is pressed and green bodies are cut from the clay extrusion. Our clinker have a light yellow, brown or red-brown to black colour. They are fired with 1150 – 1200°C ( 2102 – 2192 ° Fahrenheit) until sintering. Because of their low water absorbing capacity of 2 – 5% they are absolutely frost resistant. Furthermore, our clinker are extremely resistant against pressure, acids and alkalis. Their components prevent blooming. Last but not least they meet the highest expectations regarding sound insulation and they’re partly even suitable for furnace construction because of their refractoriness. We produce both solid and two kinds of perforated clinker with either a smooth, peeled, rustically grained or grained-sanded surface. They fulfil all requirements according to DIN 105. Their variegated or flashed look is a result of the iron content. This leads to the melting out of flows of glass: when fired with a high amount of oxigen (oxidizing) they turn red whereas a poor amount of oxygen (reducing) makes them turn brown-red to black. Our clinker are used for facades in building construction, for the construction of heavily loaded masonry or as bricks for underground construction construction of water installations and wastewater systems. Furthermore, you can find them in public places or pedestrian areas where they are used as clay pavers and floor bricks.

Muhr's soft-mud brick facades and clinker facades

are the best way to improve the stable value of your home. Like a second skin, they protect your house regardless of wind and weather conditions. Furthermore, they protect the interior supporting walls, improve the insulation, regulate temperature as well as moisture – and they look amazing! Thus, the durability of your entire home is increased significantly.

Soft-mud brick facades and clinker facades as allround protection

Rain protection

Moisture from outside is absorbed by the facade and quickly given off again after the rain. Even after driving or continuous rain, the wetness will not damage the inner shell of your house.

Heat protection

You can always enjoy a pleasant climate in a house with a soft-mud brick facade or a clinker facade. The warmth is saved in the outer wall during the day and given off again by night. During summer time, your home will hardly heat up.

Protection against cold

During winter time, cold will remain outside. You can reach any insulation level solely with the construction of a cavity wall. Moisture, being the enemy of warmth, will not reach the rear wall and the direct impact of cold is decreased.

Sound insulation

Building cavity walls with soft-mud bricks or clinker also means a very good sound insulation. The sound waves attenuate almost completely in the hollow space between the two walls.

Masonry bond and joints

Depending of the way of the masonry bond, that the soft-mud bricks or clinker will be part of, it’s possible to achieve many different optical effects. There are a lot of interesting variations: e.g. stretcher bond, head bond, English bond, cross bond, gothic type of bond or Flemish bond. It’s up to you to decide, if your facade should have a rather calm or vivid look. Furthermore, every soft-mud brick or clinker can unfold a fully new effect with the help of the various joint colours. Our product range comprises also half soft-mud bricks, strip tiles and angle tiles. These are mechanically sawed pieces of the original soft-mud and facing bricks. They have the same technical attributes, surface or colours as our standard products. Architects and building owners don’t want to do without our shaped bricks being creative elements on every construction site. They are the basis for attractive construction. You will be able to realize your personal ideas both for the interior and the exterior of the building. Furthermore, we manufacture specially shaped clinker according to your personal requirements. Just call us! We are happy to answer your questions.

Costs

Although the construction of a cavity wall is more expensive at first sight, there’s a huge value added in the long run. You will have almost no maintenance costs for a soft-mud brick or clinker facade. For solid walls, usually a new coat of paint is necessary after a few years. Furthermore, it might also be necessary to maintain the plaster after some time. So you can be sure that every Euro spent for a soft-mud brick or clinker facade will pay off: not only will you be able to save costs due to the lower energy consumption, but also due to the elimination of future maintenance costs.

Our clay pavers

are a natural flooring for all kind of grounds. However, their warm ceramic and natural colour scheme are always functional: they create a harmonious connection between your garden, your terrace and your home, a functional structure for traffic areas or an optical loosening of wide public places. There different formats and laying methods. In combination with different materials there are no limits to creativity!

Pavings made of

Muhr’s clay pavers are known for their durability, their low maintenance costs and their high efficiency. We only use domestic raw materials, as they can resist even the toughest climate stress because of their composition. Our clay pavers meet the recent DIN standards, they are resistant against acids, oil and alkalis, lightfast and durably resistant to colour-fading. Moreover, they are absolutely frost-resistant (according to DIN EN 1344), resistant to de-icing salts, high pressure and non-abrasive. Depending on the composition of the subsoil, our clay pavers can be used for low, medium and heavy urban transportation. Their special surface ensures a secure and non-slip walk.

Our Muhr shaped day pavers

offer individual solutions to special requirements: e.g. for decorative stairs, walls and balustrades, radii, gutters and borders, wall coverings or green delimitations. In general, clay pavers are permeable to water. The water permeable joint system efficiently regulates the soil moisture. By this, the sewerage system is releaved. We also offer grass pavers which allow that more water can seep away and prevent the soil from sealing. Our handy small mosaic pavers especially fit for the construction of geometric figures. There are no limits to your creativity! Because of their high quality, you could even use our bricks a second time.
